A lot of men with curly hair always go for that buzz when they are seated in the hairdressing shop because of the general conception that curly hair is considered a look that is unruly and wild. Most men with curly hair, at some point in time, start hating their mane for its texture, when in reality there is absolutely nothing wrong with curly hair!

And if you are someone who wants to jump on the ‘embracing my curly hair movement’ but has no idea where to begin, then this blog is for you. Read on to learn all the A-Z’s about hair care routines for curly-haired men and styling curly hair!

Step-by-Step Curl Care Routine For Men

The basics of the curly care routine include:

  • Shampooing
  • Conditioning
  • Post-shower care, aka Styling Curly Hair
  • Drying

Before we begin breaking down each of these steps to the T, it is notable to mention that all of these steps involve certain hair care products, and we recommend that these products be free of sulphate because sulphate can be extremely damaging for curly hair. From here , look for haircare products that are designated for curls.

We recommend you wash your hair only once or twice a week, but if you have an oily scalp or if you are a fellow gym bro, we recommend you do it 2-3 times, but with a gentle clarifying hair cleanser. We recommend you use Curlvana Fortifying Curl Cleanse Shampoo, formulated specifically for curly hair, to remove sebum, grime, and buildup without stripping away natural oil from your scalp.

Conditioning your curls

We could have easily added this step in passing to shampooing your hair, but we didn’t want you to brush this step under the rug because curly hair and conditioners are best friends, and we wanted to let you know that skipping your conditioner in the shower is never a good idea because conditioners add moisture back to your strands and make your curls healthy and bouncy, i.e., add back to your curls! We recommend you use an intensely moisturising and hydrating conditioner like Curlvana Curl Shine Gentle Conditioner.

Post-shower care, aka Styling Curly Hair

When you have a curly head, your haircare routine does not stop when you step out of the shower. TTBH,your curly hair routine begins when you step out of the shower! When you step out of the shower, remove excess water by using a microfiber towel and follow it up with a leave-in conditioner like Styling Curly Hair, which eases frizz while at the same time detangling your curls. As a final step, finish styling by using our Curlvana Curl-Defining Styling Gel for some super-defined curls.

Drying

There are two more to go from here 1) You can air-dry your hair or 2) Diffuse your hair. But either way, you need to remember this, no matter what the cause is: DO NOT TOUCH YOUR CURLS AT THIS STAGE! This is not a drill; it’s an actual emergency. We repeat, do not touch your curls when they are drying because it leads to your curls breaking away and looking frizzy and dry, and nobody wants that!
